If you're interested in guns and survival gear, there's no better time of year than January. That's because this month marks the arrival of SHOT Show 2019, also known as the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show. SHOT is the world's biggest show of its kind, and as a result it serves as the perfect venue for companies to unveil their newest products. It's no coincidence that you'll see a sudden flurry of articles and social media posts about exciting new guns (and some weird ones) across the internet this week.

For those of us on the RECOIL OFFGRID staff, SHOT Show means spending a full week in Las Vegas checking out guns and gear, conversing with PR people, and taking as many photos as we can. We usually end up tracking more than 5 miles walked each day on the show floor bouncing from booth to booth, but we're certainly not complaining. It's an awesome show, and since it's not open to the public, we have a rare opportunity to cover it.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, January 22nd) is the first day of SHOT Show 2019, and it continues through Friday the 25th. We'll be there from open to close every day, and will be posting photos and video clips to our various social media channels. This live coverage from #SHOTShow2019 will be compiled into the gallery below as we post it, and updated automatically every few minutes. So, be sure to check back throughout the week to see the latest. A 2016 article published by the American Automobile Association states that, on average, Americans are behind the wheel for 17,600 minutes per year. Yet most people are woefully underprepared to best utilize their vehicle in an emergency situation. This is usually not a result of willful neglect or even lack of effort. People simply don’t know what they don’t know about driving. And, like shooting, the number of reliable sources for quality information versus the number of people who need that information is simply depressing when pondered too seriously. Repost @calmbatives “I've always thought the Gerber Shard looked like an old cave painting of a wolf. Or maybe a skunk ready to blast someone with a face full of ass. But it's actually a pretty handy everyday-carry tool. Which is why I gave it the Best Value Award in my buyer's guide on keychain tools in Issue 38 of RECOIL OFFGRID Magazine. You can use it as a screwdriver, pry bar, and bottle opener, just to name a few functions. At 7 bucks, 1 ounce, and 2.75 inches, it's a small investment with good payout. Do you carry a keychain tool? If so, which one and why?”
