It's that time of year again — January brings the beginning of SHOT Show 2020, the world's largest shooting, hunting, and outdoor trade show. As in previous years, we'll be packing up our cameras, laptops, and note pads to spend a full week in Las Vegas documenting all the new gear that's announced at this industry-exclusive event. Vendors bring out their latest guns, packs, tools, apparel, off-road vehicles, and other products to show them off to members of the media for the very first time.
The flurry of announcements at SHOT Show is always exciting to witness, and gives us an early look at some of the items that will be released later in the year. This show is not open to the public, only to manufacturers, sales staff, and credentialed media — thankfully, we fall into the third category, so we're able to attend. We use this opportunity to walk the show floor, taking photos and video clips of new products as we get our hands on them.
The SHOT Show floor officially opens tomorrow morning, but today is the Industry Day at the Range. That means we'll be at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club, trying out featured firearms from a variety of manufacturers. Tuesday through Friday, we'll be walking the floor of the Sands Expo Center for the bulk of the show.

Highlights will be posted on our Instagram and Facebook accounts as usual, but this year we're doing things a little differently and posting more live content to our Instagram Stories. You'll be able to see some of the posts in the gallery below, but be sure to follow us on Instagram to see the latest stories at SHOT Show 2020. Also, stay tuned here on OFFGRIDweb for new gear articles throughout the week!
A strong magnet embedded in the BadgerStrap causes the split buckle to snap together with a satisfying click.
A good belt makes it easy to carry gear without constantly stopping to hike up your pants. The pictured Agis appendix holster from Tier 1 Concealed distributes weight well thanks to two clips and a flexible midsection.
Categories of belts related to emergency preparedness and self-defense: We've divided them into three categories: EDC Belt, Range Belt, and Battle Belt/War Belt, each for their own purpose. Full article on Offgrid Web, link in bio today. ...

Next week, Issue 46 of @recoiloffgridmagazine goes on sale. This issue contains my Spotlight interview with Timothy Lacy, a.k.a. @guerrilla.mentor.
Tim’s soft-spoken and friendly demeanor belies his imposing resume — 8 years as an 11B Infantryman in the US Army, 16 years in law enforcement (including time on the Gang Task Force and Counter Narcotics Team), and 13 years as a private security contractor (primarily in Afghanistan).
I’ve had the chance to attend a few of Tim’s classes in Arizona, and I appreciate his ability and willingness to translate his experience to preparedness-minded civilians.
“There are too many people who still have the mindset of “it’s not happening in my front yard, so it’ll never happen here.” It’s past time to wake up and realize that violence can occur anywhere.” — Timothy Lacy

Rope: If you’re being tied up with rope, do the opposite as with tape or zip ties — pull your elbows against your body to keep them far apart, press your palms or fists flat together, and push your wrists apart. If you can do this, you’ll buy yourself more room to work with the rope. To get out, push your arms forward and straight, press your hands together, make knife hands, and shimmy your hands back and forth. After suffering through rope burn and scraped skin, you may eventually be able to pull your hands free. Alternatively, you can use paracord to saw through the rope, as with zip ties. “Spy Week with Jason Hanson: Survival Lessons from a Former CIA Officer” full article on OFFGRID Web, link in bio. ...

Repost @atlas.news2 #Lebanon has gone completely dark after its two most major thermoelectric power stations, Zahrani and Deir Ammar, stopped operating due to fuel shortages that have been crippling the country for months. With no centralized generated power, the country faces a total blackout that is expected to last several days. The fuel shortage has also led to many people unable to run private generators that are typically used to create electricity for their homes. (📷 Daniel Carde) #AtlasNewsUpdateLebanon

Now that Instagram is back from the dead, go check out my latest @recoiloffgridmagazine article about the many uses of NFC tags.
In the article, I explained the basics of near field communication technology and its advantages and drawbacks. I also included examples of how tags can be used for anything from setting a laundry timer to dead-dropping sensitive intel or executing an emergency bug-out plan.

The 10/22 is supported by an immense amount of aftermarket part manufacturers, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on SB Tactical’s new SB22 fixed 10/22 chassis for review.
The SB Tactical SB22 Fixed 10/22 Chassis kit is a great place to start a build or retrofit an existing firearm. It’s well built, plenty strong, and has included features that are very desirable for a rimfire. The build we put together will act as a game-getting gun and a fun plinker. The 10/22 is a proven package and very reliable as a survival rifle. With a shorter barrel and the folding mechanism, this serves as a great backpack or under-the-seat gun.
-SB TACTICAL SB22
FIXED KIT, MSRP: $125 (chassis only)
Parts and Accessories Featured:
-Brownells BRN-22R receiver
-JK Armament MST 155R

The dropper loop, also known as a dropper knot forms a secure structure that aids fishermen in making multiple hook bait rings. They also find it handy to attach a rubber worm or a tube lure with this loop above a jig. Want an extra fly? Make this loop for additional attachment in your tippet or leader. The moderately strong knot suits small catch like panfish or tiny saltwater species. It is ideal for deep sea or bass fishing ranking it among the top ten fishing knots till date.

Let's talk about modularity. There are some companies who favor proprietary ecosystems. From a business standpoint, I understand the surface logic. But, as a manufacturer, there's no way you can reasonably expect to make every product that fits every need. As a "professional consumer" I will say that modularity will keep me coming back to you as often as I can because I know that when some one-man shop makes the ancillary widget I didn't know I HAD to have, your base product will still work for me. On that note, these companies are some who I think are doing it right, both for modular base carriers and innovative add-ons.
I deliberately cross-loaded parts off the two base carriers to show how adaptable these two carriers are to be set into different configurations.” ...

Repost @blade_magazine “A pantographic knife (sometimes referred to as a parachute knife) is a folding knife whose blade is opened by a scissors method (kind of like a balisong knife). The blade has a slightly longer tang than a folding knife heel. It is a German design that came around pre-WWII.”
