It’s that time of year again — January brings the beginning of SHOT Show 2020, the world’s largest shooting, hunting, and outdoor trade show. As in previous years, we’ll be packing up our cameras, laptops, and note pads to spend a full week in Las Vegas documenting all the new gear that’s announced at this industry-exclusive event. Vendors bring out their latest guns, packs, tools, apparel, off-road vehicles, and other products to show them off to members of the media for the very first time.

The flurry of announcements at SHOT Show is always exciting to witness, and gives us an early look at some of the items that will  be released later in the year. This show is not open to the public, only to manufacturers, sales staff, and credentialed media — thankfully, we fall into the third category, so we’re able to attend. We use this opportunity to walk the show floor, taking photos and video clips of new products as we get our hands on them.

The SHOT Show floor officially opens tomorrow morning, but today is the Industry Day at the Range. That means we’ll be at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club, trying out featured firearms from a variety of manufacturers. Tuesday through Friday, we’ll be walking the floor of the Sands Expo Center for the bulk of the show.

Highlights will be posted on our Instagram and Facebook accounts as usual, but this year we’re doing things a little differently and posting more live content to our Instagram Stories. You’ll be able to see some of the posts in the gallery below, but be sure to follow us on Instagram to see the latest stories at SHOT Show 2020. Also, stay tuned here on OFFGRIDweb for new gear articles throughout the week!

Now, I fully admit that I'm biased. But I genuinely believe this is the single best issue of @recoiloffgridmagazine that we've produced since I took the helm. From cover design to content, this issue brings it full force and I couldn't have done it without an absolutely killer fucking staff. From my right hand @pmccarthy10 to professionally shady bastards like @edsmanifesto and @jeyrhooligan to the quiet professionals like @echo__on @kristanjohn4 and @cfs_combat to the crack photos and loving support of @tactical_munchkin_
You guys, plus too many others to list, have helped me mold this brand into what it is now. Thank you.
If you haven't bought an issue of OffGrid in awhile, this is the one to start back up with.
Here's a sneak peak until it goes on sale next week...

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Benchmade founder Les de Asis. Les was inducted into the BLADE Cutlery Hall of Fame in 2017. He was a true pioneer in the industry and will be greatly missed by all of us. ⠀
From Benchmade:
“It is with great sadness we share that Les de Asis passed away earlier today. No words can properly express the sadness of our loss. Benchmade has lost our founder, friend and visionary who built one of the greatest knife brands in the world.

My father loved all customers, employees, friends, and the storied list of knife makers who influenced him and the world of knives since his humble beginnings in the 70’s. He was especially passionate and proud of the knife and shooting sports industries and always hoped they would thrive well beyond his years.

His personality and character extended far beyond business, creating fun friendships and relationships that brought him tremendous joy day after day. He always cherished interactions with people from all walks of life; from folks in law enforcement and military, to those who love hunting and fishing, and also those who simply like to “smoke cigars, bullshit and eat good food” – in his own words!

The values, culture, and essence of our brand are all thanks to his lifelong pursuit of making great knives even better, and providing users with products they can depend on every day, no matter the circumstance.

-Jon deAsis”

Most will dismiss what is probably one of the more useful firearms to have in a crisis situation: a reliable, lightweight semiautomatic rifle that can be suppressed. For these characteristics and a few more, we looked to Ruger’s 10/22 Takedown to see if it was the answer to our survival-firearm question. You can naturally ward off mosquitos and other insects by burning bundles of sage around your campfire. Light the end of the bundle to create a slow burn.

Full article link in our bio today - Because they are designed to enhance battlefield performance, MREs aren’t exactly diet food. The intent of each MRE is to meet one third of the warfighter’s daily requirements. Each MRE contains enough food to meet the 1,250-to-1,400-calorie goal.

To counter the physical demands of combat, the IOM determined that each meal should be heavy on carbs (about 51 percent) and fat (36 percent), which will give the body enough energy to make to the next meal. The other 13 percent of the meal is protein. The MRE is all about the soldier being able to sustain a high level of energy and exertion. Read more by clicking our bio link @recoiloffgridmagazine.
