Reality TV shows can be a touchy subject in the survivalist community. We've seen many that misrepresent the realities of survival, and some that completely make a mockery of it. However, HISTORY's ongoing series ALONE offers one of the better approaches we've seen to this theme. It's still a reality series with plenty of dramatic editing to generate mass appeal, but it also offers some helpful insight into the mental and physical challenges of staying alive in austere conditions.

We've enjoyed the last five seasons of ALONE, and have been looking forward to learning more about the next season ever since we heard about the casting call last year. After many months of silence, HISTORY posted an update on the show's official Facebook page last week. This included the premiere date for the first episode of Season 6: Thursday, June 6th. (Perhaps a less-than-coincidental reference to the “number of the beast” — Season 6 on 6/6.)

The post also revealed a new setting in the Arctic, as opposed to previous seasons which took place in the Pacific Northwest, Argentina, or Mongolia. As usual, ten contestants will compete to survive the longest while filming their progress, and the winner will receive a $500,000 prize.

Most importantly, the Facebook post also revealed the first official ALONE Season 6 trailer. You can watch it below, or click here for a direct link to the original.

For a few more vague hints, check out this Reddit post from Jordan Jonas, who says he is one of the contestants this season. Jonas commented that he can't reveal much about the show yet — almost certainly due to a non-disclosure agreement set up to prevent spoilers — but he plans to participate in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) community Q&A after it has aired.
