Matthew Williams

Matthew Williams is a writer, educator, and firearms instructor with more than 15 years of experience teaching responsible gun handling and practical field skills. As a Associate Editor of Recoil Offgrid Magazine, he leads the Gear Up column, where he highlights new and noteworthy equipment through the lens of real-world use. His work spans both editorial and video content, focusing on preparation, systems thinking, and honest evaluations of what actually works outside the showroom. Matthew’s background as a teacher shapes the way he communicates—clear, practical, and grounded in experience. He believes that confidence comes from preparation and that gear should support skill, not replace it. Whether he’s teaching on the range or writing about time spent in the field, his goal is the same: to help others think critically, refine their systems, and approach every outing with intention. Through both education and storytelling, Matthew brings a steady, experience-driven perspective that resonates with readers who value capability over hype.
