We originally planned to test the Nitecore Tube, a smaller plastic keychain light, but Nitecore recently unveiled the all-new TIP. We were able to snag an early sample at the Outdoor Retailer show — we're glad we did. This lightweight aluminum flashlight pumps out an impressive 360 lumens in Turbo mode, with a wide-angle beam. The case is durable and impact-resistant, the controls are intuitive, and it even has a lockout function. If blue isn't your color, Nitecore offers six other choices. The Tube model isn't bad by any means, but the new TIP is excellent.

Pros: Lightweight yet tough, Intuitive controls, USB-rechargeable

Cons: Exposed USB port may collect dust
