For those that find camping cots lacking, but a camp bed is over the top, there is the Helinox Tactical Cot One Convertible.
After enough camping, or just enough aging, laying on the ground for sleep becomes more of an annoyance than an adventure. No matter how good of a sleeping pad you may have, there is only so much cushioning it can provide from the bumpy, rocky, rooty ground. At that point, it’s nice to just get off the ground, even just a little, and have a somewhat flat surface to lay on.
The Helinox Cot One Convertible is just that. A flat surface, a little bit off the ground. It uses a DAC aluminum frame, weighs in at just around 5 pounds, and packs up in a smallish case. It’s a great cot for car camping, overlanding, or even mobile setups where space and weight are still of concern.
The frame of the Cot One is simple, just light weight with a lever-lock system that tensions the material creating a flat surface without hammock-y sagging. The reinforced hub and materials give the Cot One Convertible a high weight capacity and a feeling of staying power once setup.
Setup for the Cot One Convertible is not as easy as a chair, but also not hard by any means. It’s just a matter of putting the stakes in and locking in the frame. Once you’ve done it a couple of times in your living room, you should be able to get the Cot One Convertible setup in about 60 seconds.
For the Helinox Tactical Cot One Convertible, the differences are slight. It’s got a more muted color way, a little storage tucked underneath, and an overall more practical aesthetic. Not a whole lot different, but a nice step up for the outdoorsy types.
The Helinox Cot One Convertible is not trying to be a huge camping bed, or a plushy air mattress. It’s simply a nice elevated, flat surface to lay on, without having to pack up half your house to do so. For car camping, basecamp situations, or any camping where you need to recover for the next day, the Cot One Convertible will earn its place from night one.
