Early yesterday morning, magazine publisher Harris Publications announced it will be ceasing all operations, effective today (April 29th, 2016). Harris Publications was known for its survival-related Survivor’s Edge magazine, as well as a number of firearms-related magazines: Ballistic, Tactical Weapons, Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, Special Weapons for Military and Police, and Combat Handguns. The company also published dozens of other titles in the automotive, entertainment, sports, beauty, and specialty lifestyle categories.
Harris Publications’ president, Stanley Harris, sent an email yesterday to notify all employees and industry partners of this decision. Mr. Harris cited “turmoil in the face of rapid ascendance of digital media, changing consumer content preferences, magazine wholesaler struggles and consolidation in the supply chain” as reasons for this decision.

According to one employee, this announcement came as a surprise to staff—especially given the fact that the company closed its doors less than 24 hours after making this announcement. It’s still unclear whether this change will also mean the end of Harris Publications’ online properties, or whether those sites will continue under new ownership.
Harris Publications was founded in 1977, and published more than 75 magazines.
