NOTES
For as long as people have been fighting one another, they’ve been trying to solve the same problem: how to stay alive when someone else is trying to cause the opposite. Helmets are nothing new, but modern designs have come a long way from steel pots and guesswork. Ops-Core has spent the last two decades refining that idea, and the FAST XP Gen II is a solid example of where things currently stand.
This is a law enforcement-focused helmet, available in both medium and high-cut configurations. That distinction matters. The FAST XP Gen II isn’t built to stop rifle threats, what it is designed to do is stop the threats most likely to be encountered in the real world — handgun rounds and fragmentation.
Rated to NIJ IIIA and HG2 standards, the FAST XP Gen II can stop up to a .44 Magnum while managing back face deformation. That puts it squarely in the category of practical protection. Something you can wear for extended periods without sacrificing mobility or awareness. In a scenario where unpredictability is the rule, that balance matters more than outright armor thickness.
Where this helmet really stands apart is how it integrates into a larger system. The high-cut design allows for proper use of over-ear communication headsets, while the ARC rail system supports lights, cameras, and other mission-specific accessories. If you’re running night vision, the front shroud is designed to keep that weight stable and manageable. Comfort is another area where the FAST XP Gen II solidifies its place.
Ops-Core’s LockDown Liner System allows for a high level of customization, giving the user the ability to adjust both suspension and padding for fit, airflow, and long-term wearability. That may not sound like a big deal until you’ve spent a couple of days under a helmet that doesn’t fit correctly. Debris, fragmentation, and secondary threats are far more common than precision rifle fire. The FAST XP Gen II is built with that reality in mind.
